”I have muffins to share,” Tania said as we drove into a parking spot at Johnson Lake.
Tania explained that we would see if the lake was healthy. We walked down to the water and I had to get my feet wet because I forgot my boots. While I was dipnetting for insects, I saw a rainbow trout chillin under a lily pad. When we looked in our net, we had some weird insects – the weirdest one was the dragon fly nymph. It looked like a prehistoric bug with big eyes and a scaly body.

After that I went on a packraft to do some fishing for rainbow trout, but the strong current made it impossible to fish. Eventually I went back to land because my fly rod got tangled and knotted up. I dragged the packraft up to the car and made my way over to a place where I could fish from shore. Then I ran into my brother Ellis. He showed me the good spot, but my fly rod wasn’t working so he gave me his pole. I was getting so close to getting a rainbow trout when my mom called out that it was time to go.
”C’mon we got get to Che’s soccer game,” she said.
I slumped into the car and took my last glance at Johnson lake.
